Visualisation on Radical Acceptance
8m 47s
When a person utilizes denial or another defense mechanism, they often end up feeling worse and in even more distress. This is because they are not accepting the reality of the situation (Chapman, Gratz, & Tull, 2011).
Acceptance is simply acknowledging the moment as it is; there is no judgment involved in acceptance. In order to accept reality, we must make a conscious choice to turn toward reality. It is not always easy, and that is why these visualisation meditations can be very powerful in bringing you to a calmer emotional place.
When you are calm and grounded, it is sometimes easier to accept the situation, objectively, without judgment. We become an observer, rather than a participant. This removes the feeling of needing to react to the moment.
By accepting our reality, we lessen the suffering.
